The play is primarily set in a psychiatric ward in the Balkan Mountains. The scenes are set in various locations within the ward, outside the ward, and even across Europe, and the set needed to adapt to the various locations. The result was a central playing area that represented the psychiatric ward, a doctor’s office that was concealed by a scrim, and a downstage camouflaged space to represent the exterior. Projections were also used on various locations of the set.
